This Water Treatment System Removes Arsenic & Softens Water for a Happy Nanaimo Customer,

Since 1978 Holman Plumbing & Water Treatment in Duncan, BC has been providing plumbing and water treatment products and services on Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands. Restaurants, homeowners, and commercial property owners throughout Vancouver Island have chosen Holman to upgrade existing water systems to high quality water filtration and treatment systems that ensure a safe, clean source of water.

Recently, our licensed and certified water treatment specialists installed an arsenic removal system with a water softener for a homeowner in Lantzville, BC near Nanaimo. A water analysis revealed an elevated concentration of arsenic, and the homeowner wanted to reduce the levels to avoid health risks to the family.

How does a cancer-causing, poisonous chemical such as arsenic end up in well water?

Arsenic is a chemical that occurs naturally in the earth and is very common in groundwater on Vancouver Island and throughout BC. Elevated levels of arsenic, which are associated with acute and chronic health risks in humans, are more likely to be detected in groundwater that is proximal to eroding arsenic-bearing bedrock and in locations receiving ground or surface water from past mining activity.

Arsenic is without smell or taste in groundwater, therefore, a chemical test is the only way to detect it. The Canadian drinking water guideline for arsenic sets a Maximum Acceptable Concentration of 0.010 mg/L. Common methods such as chlorinating water, filtering it through a pitcher filter, or boiling water do not reduce or remove arsenic in drinking water!

What can be done to reduce arsenic levels in well water?

The arsenic removal system Holman water treatment specialists installed recently for a homeowner near Nanaimo, BC incorporates an environmentally friendly adsorption media. Once the arsenic binds to this media, the arsenic is removed or greatly reduced in the water. This type of system will not put high levels of arsenic in the drain during the backwash cycle, and when the media needs to be discarded, it will not leach arsenic into the landfill.

The valve heads on the system we installed have Leak Detection, touchscreen displays, and keep track of water usage to allow the service person to know when the lifespan of the media that bonds with arsenic is coming to an end. Keeping this water treatment system maintained and adhering to all the manufacturer's specifications are key to effectively keeping arsenic levels low.

This customer is very happy with their system, and the arsenic levels have been brought down to significantly low levels under the Canadian drinking water standards.

"Arsenic is common on Vancouver Island and our success rates for removing it are very good." -Warren Holman

  • Our Happy Clients:

Now with our new water system there has been a tremendous change. Most importantly we are healthier, the water tastes and smells like water again and not some chemical cocktail, also the skin problems have been reduced to minimal.

Our hair and skin is soft and we use less body and house hold products. It was so nice to meet a professional who is certified and cares about clients needs. Thank you so much Lauren!

  • Our Happy Clients:

You have restored my faith in the concept of living up to one’s word.

As a result our drinking water was limited to the designated R.0. tap in the kitchen; however, with no way to monitor the efficiency of the filters we were never certain that our drinking water was safe.

I am sure we will enjoy a long and stress-free relationship with you.

  • Our Happy Clients:

I'm really happy with the work you did for me, the faucet installation and cut off valves on the pipes as well as my new pump. I am especially pleased with the Pentex pump saver.

As you know, I was everywhere with my camera that day, so I captured most of what you were doing and attach the pictures as a reminder of a job well done.

Thank you very much for replacing my pump in the correct fashion, and showing me the errors a previous well service company had made.
